got mail from dodge offering extended warranty for 5yr/100mile added care plan is $1050 for the max care it is $1555 yall think that it is worth it or needed and i wonder if that cover 4 wheel drive stuff and front wheel bearings tie rod ends and trac bars

On a 2002 we already have the 7 year/100,000 mile warranty.<br><br>But it's limited after 3 years or so, more limited after 5.<br><br>What does the 5yr/100,000 do, just make it less limited?<br><br>Sounds a bit scammy to me.<br><br><br>phox

well it is from daimlerchrysler and think that it is a bumper to bumper 5/100k it think it has a 800 # to call <br>says that i have had the truck a almost a year and it was offer again till may 16

I don't think the 7 year warranty started until mid-year in the 2002 production. Mine is a 2002, but was manufactured a month or so prior to introduction of the improved warranty. <br><br>Steve

When we bought our '99 Stratus in 2k, we purchased the extended warranty. When the paperwork arrived, I was looing it over and, lo and behold, it began the day the car was first put into service. In this case it was Jan '99. Therefore instead of it being a 5-year/100k, it actually appeared to be a 2-year/64k because it covered the same time period as the original factory warranty (3-year/36k). I was not a happy camper. The car's been great, we have 93k on it now and the couple of minor things that went wrong were fixed under the warranty. I only bought it on the Ram because my wife wanted it. <br><br>Personally, it's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine.<br><br>DW

I bought an extended warranty when I bought my VW for 600 bucks. It covered 6 years, 100k. They did 1600 worth of work in that time frame, I paid 100 deductable twice. Once was for a/c work, rock or stick or something through the condenser, and another time for the speedo cluster which stopped working. At the same time my bro in law bought a Taurus, same warranty, same price, and did not need it, as his repairs were not covered. So I dunno. Peace of mind yes, financial benefit, unknown. HTH

In my opinion, the extended warranties are a 50/50 hit and miss although I have never had any good luck with them at any time. I quit purchasing them for the last several new cars/trucks I bought. This is like one of them psycological things like carrying a spare fan belt, as long as you have it, chances are you will never need it. Sure enough if you don't get it, something will go wrong and you will need it.<br>I had my 89 diesel for just short of ten years and never took it back to the dealer once and it had over 142000 when I traded it. The 95 diesel (purchased used) did have an injector pump problem but it was covered under the 100000 mile Cummins warranty. My current 99 truck is getting ready to trip 123000 and has only been back one time to look at the brakes right after I bought it. Has not been back since and some of those miles were pretty well loaded.<br>The cars I have purchased new since 1984 include: <br>84 Chevy S10<br>86 Chevy S10<br>87 Dodge 4x4 150 318 four speed<br>89 4x4 Dodge diesel auto<br>88 Honda Accord five speed<br>90 Honda Accord five speed<br>92 Plymouth Voyager<br>95 Dodge Hi-top conversion van<br>95 Dodge Stratus<br>95 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 five speed<br>99 Plymouth Neon five speed<br>99 Dodge 3500 4x4 five speed <br>Had problems with both S 10's, the Toyota, and the Stratus. The S 10's were fixed under the normal warranty, the Stratus lost a crank seal at 5000 miles and I dumped it cause they couldn't get it right again, and the Toyota was a piece of garbage from day two. They never did get fixed and I ended up dumping it with about 12000 miles on it. The rest of them have been trouble free. <br><br>Good luck with your decision, hope this helped confuse the issue a little. I would take the cost of the warranty and chuck it in a savings account somewhere and drive on but that's just me speaking here.<br><br>DD4X4

Vehicle manufacturers do not offer extended warranties because they are philanthropists, the offer them because there is a statistical probability that they will make money on them. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just realize that they are ONLY selling you peace of mind at what will most likely be a higher rate than you would otherwise pay for the services they may render, if you are on a fixed income and a suprise repair bill is a large problem, it may be well worth the money. However, I have heard more than one story about people who have had their extended warranty voided because they didn't rotate the valve stem caps on their tires or some other half baked reason (I imagine that this is more prevalent with warranties offered by third parties).<br><br>I will take the gamble and pass on the extended warranty every time. The bigger scam IMHO is the road hazard warranty that the tire store sells.

I put a lot of miles on my vehicles and subsequently I put on a lot of tires. I have purchased at least fifteen SETS of four tires and in my entire life I have only lost one tire that was not repairable. At five to ten dollars per tire for road hazard warranty that tire would have cost me somewhere between 300 and 600 bucks.<br><br>I am very happy to keep the money in my pocket.

I've had so many vehicles I cant remember them all and had the extended warranty on all of them. I never have broke even on it to date so I gambled wrong but like others have said..'it's insurance' but I think it's time I stopped buying it.

I got the same mailer from dodge in the mail yesterday. I my opinion it is ... You almost have to get the highest one they offer $1100.00 to make it worth while. I have the 7yr. 100,000 mile deal from buying the truck. Being how I am getting ready to &quot;bomb it&quot; I don't think the extra money outta my pocket for more warrenty is worth it. It may be a good deal for some, but I think not.
