Dodge cancelling Cummins contract????
Read on a news site that there is a rumor of Dodge cancelling their contract with Cummins. Anybody else heard anything on this? The rumor was coming from Cummins employees, not Dodge.

I believe that the 'cancellation' is relevant to the 1500 with the 4 cyl diesel, or at least THAT cancellation has already been in place for some time.
As far as the 6 cyl, 6.7L is concerned - truck production has slowed down greatly and as a result the engine production will slow accordingly. I have relatives who work for Cummins in engine production, they are talking layoffs due to the sales slowdowns.
It would not suprise me at all if the 1500 comes out with the Fiat diesel and it would furthermore not suprise me if Fiat comes out with a comparable what could be called 'big block' diesel to the Cummins. Maybe Fiat already has a comparable, I have not taken the time to research what they produce abroad. Who knows, maybe they have an 8L Fiat motor they could put in a Dodge HD???
There is a current contract for the 6.7L that goes to and through 2010 with Cummins, after that it is anybodys ball game. Maybe via the bankruptsy mechanisms contracts have been cancelled, could be a tool for re-negotiation on prices, etc by Fiat????

It would benefit Cummins i'm sure if they didn't, Ford already sells a lot more trucks, imagine how many if they had a real motor. Yep I am one of those who wanted a Cummins, and settled for Dodge.

Fiat have many motors that can be used. In fact they have a 5.9l and a 6.7l inline 6 more or less like Cummins.
Their industrial line is Iveco (one of the largest worldwide), check their web site and the motors offered.
