dodge 5500
I just got a new Dodge 5500 manual 4x4, and traded in a GMC 4500. I like the Dodge better but it's rated gvw is 19,500 and the GMC is 17,500. Thats all on paper. In reallity the GMC carried more weight comfortably. The Dodge with added Ride Rite airbags becomes the better truck. Further more the PTO prep Package on the Dodge is a joke, a PTO will not fit, the front driveline hits. Does anybody know any thing about this problem?

i don't know why the pto would not fit because the sterling 5500 comes standard with a pto. And it is the exact same truck only different grill. The sterling 5500 will be my next work truck.

They come with the PTO prep package but your upfitter installs the actual PTO and on the 6 speed manual trans with 4x4 it doesn't fit. I don't know what transfer case the sterling has but if its the same one the dodge has it won't work. Dodge still advertizes the manual trans 4x4 is PTO capable but you can't even order one that way now but they won't say why.

Electric hydralic pump is what they use but they are very slow compared to a PTO pump. I have a 5 Yrd dump box on my truck and haul material on site sometimes up to 40 loads per day And an electric hydralic pump would be too time consuming not to mention hard on the charging system. For me the real issue is that I payed extra for PTO prep package and it does'nt work, and dodge wont do anything about it. Now I'm building a new front driveline that is smaller diameter tube but who is going to warranty any problems arising from that?
