Yes you still need a pressure box, the pump can only supply what it's commanded to

What injectors do u have? The Stage 3 pump should be able to keep up with some good sized sticks. A pressure box is only needed if you wanna add EXTRA pressure. Do u run a Smarty? There is some adjustable pressure settings with the Smarty as well.

A stock pump is enough for 600hp. A bag of parts from Wickeddiesels will get you in the 650 range. If you're looking for more than 700, you'll probably need something like a stage 3 pump.

A pressure box is good for about 50hp on a 550-650 hp rig.

Go with a bag of parts from wicked, and upgrade to a stage 3 when you get big injectors.

can i just run the stock pump and turn up the rail pressure on the smarty or will that kill the injectors?
also isnt it worth it to get the stage 3 right away or no? i know you can upgrade but going big is always better right? or in this case does it not work

The Smarty will only allow about 24K on the rail pressure... Most of the time you'd want to see 26-27 for optimum performance...

ok so should i turn up the smarty rail pressure with the stock pump or is this a no no? i guess i really dont understand the rail pressure i understand the concept that you want more pressure so you do not run it dry and that you are atomizing the fuel properly but is it needed on a truck that i will have 600 hp max

post #2 kind of explained it.

In most instances, smarty alone does not command more than 23-24kpsi.

MP8 will command up to about 27kpsi.

If you do not have adequate mechanical pressure (i.e. a built CP3) the pump will not meet the commanded pressure.

If you do have a built CP3, it will only supply what it is commanded (electronically) to supply.

So....
If you want the most power out of your upgraded CP3, you'll want to stack a pressure box to command the maximum amount of fuel from your pump.

Wicked Arson 3 ($350) - much less than a full CP3, and for 600hp should be fine......use the smarty to get rp to 25k...more than that, look at adding a pressure box....but wait and see if the pressure box is really needed based upon how it drives.....personally, i'd add f1.x (smallish) injectors with the savings of not getting a cp3...if my target was 550-600hp....

That's pretty much my plan....see sig....then when $'s allow, i'm getting F1.5 injectors + mp8

Just a quick note on pressure, don't run additional pressure all the time for daily driving, it's not needed, and although it might be nice, it will ruin injectors in a hurry.

I think what people were trying to say, is that if you're looking for 600 horsepower, you don't need to go through the hassle of sending your cp3 in to get upgraded and spend all that money on a Stage 3, when you can order the Wicked Stage 1 cp3 upgrade, only 1/3 or 1/4 the cost of Stage 3, it can be shipped to your house, and you can install it yourself or have a friend help, and be back on the road in less than 2 hours! Upgrading the cp3 simply allows it to flow more so that the actual pressure going to the fuel rail is what the ECM is asking for. Adding a pressure box will bring the rail pressure above and beyond what the ECM is asking for. Just make sure you have an upgraded fuel pump as well (AirDog, FASS, Walbro, etc.) so you're cp3 is getting plenty of fuel to it.

OK, Stage 3 is a built, increased displayment CP3 - e.g. cost $1600+....

The bag of parts / arson 3 / ....is the basic cp3 mod with a few parts that increase cp3 flow...

Big diff in cost and flow between the two....
