How do you get dealer to do flash updates?
I brought TSB #'s for flashes for my very early 06. I'm only getting 13mpg and figured it was worth a try. They wouldn't even look at my #'s. Just noted my mileage conplaint. He said all ECM's/TCM's are different so my #'s probably would be no good anyway. ***?? Hopefully, the tech will be experienced enough to try the flashes.. If he doesn't, what would you do?

I read the TSB bulletins, then went in and made those exact complaints (I didn't read right off the printout, but it was close).
I said, “When I start the engine when it is cold, I get a pretty good puff of white smoke. And, sometimes it cranks for a really long time.”
The dealer said, “We will see what we can do. It looks like there is a computer upgrade that will help those problems.”
I asked, “Can I come in tomorrow?”

It appears that your dealer is not trying to be the best for customer service. My dealer done it for me while I watched them. I asked the tech alot of questions about how the downloader worked and soforth. He was a good guy and showed me alot about how the tool worked. When it was all done I purchased the tech a soda. Sometimes little things like that will go a long way in the futchure.

I'd definately hook up with another dealer, mine did it when I was in for oil change, I asked them to turn on DTR as well and they did.
I must say it matters how busy they are though, I went for oil change last week and they neglected to program in out of park warning cause they were swamped, not that I'd ever ask them to turn that sucker on.

My truck is the earliest 06 I have seen with a build date of 04/05.
I took mine in for the rollover valve recall and asked about a reflash for MPG improvement and gave him the TSB#.
He looked it up and said my truck was not included in the bulletin numbers and would not do the flash.
Mine still has the original 04/05 flash label on the box.

well.
Jsut got my truck back. I did go with the strategy of telling them I had long crank times. This was partially true. Took 4 seconds or so sometimes. The dealer told me they did a PCM flash to fix that. So, even though he wouldnt take my word for it I got what I want. And yes, on the drive home my overhead was reading higher than usual. I know not to get my hopes up until I hand calc it. I have recorded every drop of fuel so I'll be able to tell if thi did anything for me.. My historical average so far is 13.3 MPG.. That's mixed including towing a boat and 10000 lb race trailer 1x a week or so.
