How do you dispose of your old coolant?
It is time to drain and refill my cooling system. So my question is: How do you folks dispose of your old coolant? Old oils I just take to Autozone who takes them to recycle for free. This is the first time I have kept a vehicle long enough to need to change the coolant and it is time not just for the CTD but also for the wife's Hemi Durango so I will have a lot to get rid of. Thanks for your replies in advance.

The local landfill has a place that allows you to dump old oil and antifreeze for recycling. Check with the county you live in and they probably have a similar type of operation.

Thanks guys! I think I am starting to get old... I didn't even think of the city recycling program even though I am taking a tree there that came down in the storm last week.

I'm lucky, I have a waste coolant tank at work to use...but I really like Amsoil's coolant. Totally biodegradable and non toxic. Open the drain and let her run, wherever you may be...

Hi D-Roc
Propylene Glycol based coolants were initially touted as non toxic. In pure form, propylene glycol is very safe and biodegradable;however, the additives that make it a coolant can be toxic. Because of this the EPA and FDA ruled they now must say "essentially non-toxic". Amsoil states the following regarding their propylene glycol based coolant: "It is biodegradable and requires no special disposal costs or procedures in most areas. Above all, its low toxicity limits the threat to children, pets or wildlife".

My dog lapps it up so I don't have to worry much about it. Otherwise I drop it off at the local elementry school on Sundays, usually dump it by the swing set or sand box.

I donate to the neighborhood loud dog, along with a cheap hamburger steak. All my neighbors love me, except one.
