Re:what to do?
Where to began? You have the plug-n-play boxes that are used. Up the boost on the turbo. Bigger injectors. The real big difference between the 1st and 2nd gen. is the electronics on the motor, ( oh yea, and the extra valves )
I hope this helps, there should be other folks to chime in that have links and things to look at.

Re:what to do?
if i did it all over again i probably wouldn't pierce the wire as the first bomb ( i burped the VP shortly after )...i personally would get an EZ, scotty air, and EDM II's...then (after i still wasnt satisfied) i would pierce the wire ...of course this is more expensive than a Comp box or a Blue Chip box like i got but a bit safer for the VP if that's a concern...all of these ideas is assuming the no-brainer of gauges first and of course prepare for tranny work ;D

Re:what to do?
yeah, i've been looking for some instructions on taking out the silencer ring. couldn't find any though. and what is the preferred way of playing with the wastegate? thanks

Re:what to do?
If you play with the wastegate, you will need a fueling box with a boost fooler (like an Edge) or a seperate boost fooler or you will set a code. If your friend's truck is a 2001, you will probably need a boost elbow if it is a standard or you will need a turbuckle if it is an automatic with the hardline wastegate. Another option is the turbomaster setup.

Re:what to do?
Silencer ring removal is a snap...pardon the pun. Remove duct from inlet of turbo. Remove retaining clip, being sure that hometal shavings remain where clip is removed, slip out silencer and re-connect duct to turbo inlet. Enjoy the whirr of the turbo spooling up and down.
