Do I need a towing turbo?

Howdy,I tow a 40' toy hauler that weights 15,000lbs. all the time,I hit 38-40 psi regulary and my egt's never go over 900degrees(post turbo)since I put a zilla boost fooler on last year which dropped my egt's by 200-300 degrees..I wouldn't mind a little more power for headwinds. Is my stock turbo fine with this or what should I change it to?I really don't want any tuners that may void my warranty.I only have 20,000 mi.on the truck and use it to tow only. Thanks for any info.

Just putting on a different turbo will void your warranty too. If all you are hitting (and that pyro really should be pre and not post turbo) is 900* (say maybe 200 more for pre turbo) then it is ok as you are especially if you don't want to change anything.

Need to call Nathan and stop by next time you come to Idaho, he's in Boise.
he will build what suits your needs not just a generic set. im sure others will chime in.

I would go smarty as it will not void you warranty unless you leave it in when at the dealer and if you are looking for a little extra then the smarty Jr. would be your best bet. They are on ebay for a great price.

Smarty

Smarty doesn't specifically have a towing level, but the lower levels are very close to the smarty jr. ...e.g. 30/40, 60/70, 90/100hp....it's the same basic software....latest smarty has stupid low egt's, very smooth and get's great reviews for towing, excellent power....with a stock clutch, you're not going to want to go any higher than 60/70hp (level 3 on standard smarty)....if you're not worried about $'s, get the smarty sr. as it's more flexable and can grow with your truck....

I''m in North Phoenix (Happy Valley and 51st)...if you want to give the smarty a test run, you're welcome to.....it's a no risk proposition...you'll be very happy with it. email me at jgiachino@hypercom.com if you want to give her a try.

As mentioned above, Nathan at MPI is a great resource. Nice thing about him is he will custom tailor whatever you want, not necessarily just of the shelf. That said, there are a number of "off the shelf" twins that are wonderful for towing and work stupid well. I have Piers towing twins--they are "old school" but I couldn't be happier with their performance. Other options are BD and ATS and some others. Do some research before you lay down that kind of $$ but you really can't go wrong with twins and towing if you can afford it.
