most places say 45 or more. the stock turbo will make 48psi if you push it. I would say 50 or more it may not hurt to install them. some guys on here have twins or big singles and no aftermarket studs

It is hard to say on boost pressure alone. If you are runnin staight fuel and dont go wild with timeing and have a decent turbo 45-50 is kinda the cut off. I am runnin 47-48 with mine right now but plan on ordering studs when I get back from in town next week. Maybe I dont need em but for what they cost it is a lot cheaper than blowin a head gasket.

exactly as will says. it is a matter of timing, boost, and heat.
it all equals cylinder pressure. an HG will go with 35 psi, if it isnt warmed up, and you have the timing cranked in.
of it may survive at 50 if you're reasonable with the timing.

How about this for an answer...
You need head studs when the cylinder pressure is such that the OEM head bolts are yielded!
I would say big turbos with low drive pressure are ok till 55 psi boost or so...mine lasted 100k with floggings of 56 psi daily with an A5k for a turbo.
Medium size turbos...say 66's need them around 50 psi boost.
Small...stockers, 62's, and 64's need them at 45 psi.
Through any drug's into the mix...and it is all up in the air.
