BOV's are useless and ridiculous on a Cummins. Use the correct turbo and all it will do is sing.

Are you talking about the sound when he lets off between shifts? (BTW, looking at the smoke, I'd say that's a Diesel Jetta---no BOV there) That sound is the turbine wheel (exhaust side) slowing down.
edit: Welcomto DTR!

double edit: the stacks will definitely help

All ya need is a straight pipe for that. You can hear mine altigh in this vid:

Ahh, there's nothing like the sound of a 12v in the morning but I would like the MPG of that diesel Jetta. Trying to get the wife into one, hehe.

Ahhhhh, you just had to post that video. Now I absolutely MUST install new exhaust on the 1994. I repeat, MUST.

I believe the 12V motors make a unique whine when the turbine spins down between shifts. The new-gen trucks can sound good, but never like the 12V to answer the question. However, the compressor sound on the newer trucks can be insane with a large turbo.

My MKIV 1.8T AWW Jetta sounded just like that but it wasn't a BOV, you need to a closed system and that's accomplished with a DV (Diverter Valve), VW's come with one stock but they are weak plastic, unadjustable, small units, I added an adjustable FORGE DV to mine, with the CARBONO CAI, SUPERSPRINT T-back exhaust along with the WETTERAUER software, it was a low 13's car, it had a very loud blow-off sound without the ricey cheap exhaust sound as in that video, I could drive down the street, shift and people on the sidewalk would jump Had to sell the car though, got me into way too much trouble

I wouldnt say useless at all. now 50psi of boost releasing under the hood of a 7K lb truck sounds pretty ridiculous
