How do I know I'm hooked ?
Ok,
Well, two years ago, I never would have thought I'd be saying this... but..
I'm addicted to the CTD.
Today I purchased my new 92, and I couldn't be happier. It needs some maintenance, but no major rust rot issues like my 93. Born and raised in the west coast, it's a survivor with little scale on the frame, and a two year old paint job. 150K on the truck.... bought from the original owner who purchased it new in 91 as a 92 model. This guy used only Rotella, and didn't allow anyone to smoke in it, so it still has that "new truck smell"... and dog farts as he loved to take his dog riding with him.....
Cruise, a real radio (chrysler), A/C Pw / PLocks and it's almost as clean on the interior as new. I'm simply amazed.... and thrilled that I was lucky enough to come across it at the right time.
I'm so stoked that I finally have a truck that doesn't need bodywork and paint.... and just some maintenance to bring her back to 100% After that I'm removing the cap and having the bed sprayed with the rhinoliner, as I'm not able to see real well out the back...
Anyone want to buy a cap ?
I think I just peed my pants !

I cannot believe what great shape this truck is in.
The frame has "scale on it" as the original protective layer (yeah right ) is peeling. I'm going to start at the front of the truck and either sandblast, chemical peel or grind off the paint... red oxide paint or some other cold galvanization prime it, and paint it a nice coat of black paint.
Since there's no real rust on the truck, from the frame to the body to the cab mounts, to the bed, I think by just catching it before it starts, I have a good chance of limiting it's occurrence.
I'm going to drill the cavities where you can't see (such as the body pan) and spray a "rust converter" inside to eliminate / stop any surface rust inside where you can't get to.
Hoping it will take a few weeks in my spare time. Just need to be done before winter... as salt is terrible here. I want it protected before it's first NJ winter run....as the truck came from where there was no salt used.
Lots of work ahead of me.... but I'm so **** excited. !!!!
BTW... There's no freaking rust on the rain gutter above the windshield ! Whoohoo !

Nice truck man.......Definely ditch the cap, that thing is horrible.
Ditch Bug guard? Please?
Looks like a real clean truck for up here, I have a pair of buckets that are that nice. Wish my interior was Grey, They'd be in there. LOL
I (we) will have to see it sometime.......look up how far you are from Buck, PA

Dude,
My wife and I go to New Hope whenever we can get away from work. Frans Pub on the main drag makes the best pizza....
Once I get the truck back up to maintenance 100% we'll take a ride
What's with the bug guard ? You no likeee ???
Cap is gone as soon as I can get someone to help me get it off the truck. Your wish will be granted, my dear fella!

I am not sure it's possible to get a 1st gen up to 100%, so i guess we'll never meet
When/if you go to buy tires, you should get some 285/75's , they look so good on stock trucks.

Fluid changes will do.
For the summers, I'm going to run the skinny road tires. Winter will be my mudders.

Thanks for the explanation, as I would have never got that one.
Took some pix after it's first bath @ my house on this rainy crappy day.
I adjusted the door to allow it to close properly. I'm amazed that the floor in the cab, on the drivers side, is 100% intact and has NO ... I mean ZERO rust.
Now comes the difficult part of making it stay that way..... maybe I'll move to FLA
