where do i get a new vp44?
need to know if i need a new vp44 and where to get one. and should i get the hrvp? truck intermitently acts like you throw the throttle wide open then goes to a semi dead pedal like there is air in systm or something . it done it a month ago and i put a lp relocation kit with big lines and new pump . it has done the same thing 3 times since. 12psi at idle 10psi cruising and 8 at wot. have reset and recalibrated apps. has thrown 1689 code one only twice.

The APPS is probably bad....my truck never threw a code for the APPS until it died completely. 0253 is the vp44 death code. If you really feel that the vp44 is bad....Advanced Diesel Technology 304-864-3399 has injection pumps made by Industrial Injection....very good pumps. Tell Doug that Jamie sent you his way.

i checked the voltage on the apps and then calibrated to what the sticker said it should be. (.591 vdc) but could only get .57 out of it. with it being an intermittent problem it is hard to determine what is wrong.

didnt observe the apps while operating throttle just loosen the screws and adjusted the voltage according to the tech specs. just found out today the price of the dreaded apps. i would almost rather buy a new vp at least it feels and loooks like it should cost alot.

My brother has the 0253 code when it is cold outside. I just typed the wrong numbers....sorry. I meant 0216!

The code is kind of a throw off, but you may get lucky and it just be the CPS. (Crankshaft/Camshaft Position Sensor) Can't remember now which it was. Mine was acting the same way and throwing the check engine light but I never looked at the code, just waited for it to clear. Just a thought. Trying to keep you from having to go the VP route.

The P0216 code may well be the death code for a VP, but many drive it for months, and even years with that code, the real killer is the P1688 and P1689, when my truck threw those codes it left me sitting along the road

i done some reading last nite about the vp that blue chip diesel is rebuilding. he says he has 400 of them on the road now and has a return rate of less than 1% . the electronics that he puts in are from a revision that was created for fed ex and he resleeves the pump itself so everything is new to new. $1600.00 if the pump goes i ll probably go to www.bluechipdiesel.com

All VPs on the market now have electronics that have been upgraded again since the FedEx upgrade; those are old news. I was considering the Blue Chip myself, but figured if I'm going to spend that much might as well spend an extra $100 to go with the Hot Rod VP44 from Industrial Injection and get the extra 80 HP and 120 ft-lbs as well...(I went with a local vendor that sold it to me for $1700) Here's a link to it:

Forgot to mention; are you aware Blue Chip charges an $800.00 core charge in addition to the $1600.00 purchase price? Most everyone else charges a $400.00 core which is a little easier to swallow if your core is rejected or "lost"...

think i have got the problem down to one of two things. the edge ez or the ecm. went wild on codes thursday morning and threw the 1689 380 382 and 236 codes. took the edge off and every things seems to be fine. evidently it wasnt working because i couldn't even tell i took it off. the surge i was feeling evidently was the edge box working and then not working. still analyzing the situation.
