Do the early 6.7's have issues?

I am new to this forum and would appreciate any advice. I am looking into purchasing CTD as I am tired of my gutless gasser for towing. I know the 5.9 CTD has very reliable history but have not been able to locate a really nice one with low miles. I have come across a very nice 07 with the 6.7 CTD with a build date of 05/07. It currently has 40k miles. My big question is when were the first 6.7's built and are there any issues with the early ones. I will be using it to tow a 6500 lb travel trailer but would like to be able to upgrade to a large 5th wheel in the future. I have never owned a diesel so I am open to advice. Are there any specific things that I need to look at on this vehicle before purchasing it? Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Mine was built in April '07 and while it went back to the dealer a few times for egr cleaning and reflashes it never ran bad. I now run with the egr unplugged and a cai and hypertech on level 2 and tow 11k lbs. and am very happy with performance and fuel mileage.
If you buy the truck have dealer do the latest flash and unplug the egr valve and you should be good to go

I don't own a 6.7, but read about them on here, there seems to be LOT less issues on the 08 model, according to this site. Good Luck.

There was a block of them Chrysler bought back between April and May. It was my understanding they got them all. It was like 200 of them, 7 of which were right here at the same dealer.

Other than that, they were as good as the 08's. There was a recall for the DPF module, it caused a check engine light, and as said, a bunch of flashes.

Some of them didn't run any better than a 5.9 and got horrible MPG

My middle June 07 build 6.7 was bought back by chrysler.

1. Short in engine injector harness from factory
2. Defective Sentry Key system
3. Cracked DPF, Turbo cleaning, and poor mpg.

I now own a 06 5.9 and couldn't be happier.

Anything built after Nov 08 is good to go from what I've experienced. Anything built prior to that seems to be ok if the updates were done to it. I have several "problem children" from that era that have not had issues with since the TSB addressing soot issues (18-013-08 REV. A) came out in Dec of 08. Dodge and Cummins has been very aggressive in solving these issues. The info and training is available and up to the dealer and techs to take part in it if they choose.

My truck's MDH is 051609 (born May 16th, 2007 at 9:00 am Saltillo time) and I've had one EGR valve, one re-flash, and two cab lights replaced under warranty. My 2007.5 has been great and I love the power.

jlsdcen2, if you perform a search on some of your questions, you'll ultimately find a lot of "hear say" and opinions from more 5.9L owners than 6.7L owners; in a nutshell, there's a lot of 6.7L bashers (some, not all) so take what you read with a grain of salt.

The 68RFE, exhaust brake, and loads of power bone*stock make the 6.7L a better choice in comparison to a bone*stock 5.9L.

Not all 2006 5.9L's are perfect trucks......I know of two 2006 Inferno Red MegaCab trucks that had injector failures......both near 60k miles or so.

Any truck can be problematic; as long as you have a dealership with the proper techs, it should be a non-issue.
