What to do what to do

I was talking to a fellow Cummins freak about installing new injectors to up my horsepower and torque. He said I would be better off installing a bigger turbo.

Not being the brightest star above when it comes to diesels, I'm bringing it to you guys for your input. I'm looking for some more power when I'm towing my 32 foot Tango trailer up the grades. With over 110k on the speedo, old paint just ain't pulling the weight like she use to.

I'm ready and waiting for your suggestions.

Don

Injectors would be a good start but stock one will make some decent numbers and power with a programer or chip. Just remember if you are going to turn the fuel up to get some gauges to keep an eye on everything. A fuel, boost and pyro would do the job. Also added power on the stock clutch is going to add some stress on it. You might want to look into an Edge Juice or chips that have built in gauges. I love my Edge cause you can turn it up and down on the fly plus it has built in gauges and will de-fuel if it gets too warm when towing. There are a ton of opinions out there to look around

A week after I bought mine, I put an Edge EZ, exhaust and gages on it and loved the extra power. It makes a huge difference but of course you get greedy so after some time I went with a bigger set of injectors. A few days later the clutch went out pulling a local hill and it started from there.

I was running a Smarty and Mach 1.75's for sometime before I upgraded turbos when I was pulling heavy. EGT's are your biggest problem but with a set of gages and keeping an eye on them, a stock turbo will take you a long way before you need to go bigger.

Your stock clutch will be the fuse in the power game. How high you can go will be a determining factor. It boils down to what kind of power you want/need. Myself, I'm more than happy where I am, sure I would like more but I'm happy.

Thanks to both of you for your imput! I don't want a 1000 hp monster just looking for a few more ponys going up a few grades. I'm going to look into a programmer and see if that takes care of my issue of not being able to pull a long grade at 65mph.

I had a edge juice with attitude on myh 01', it really helped with the power but you have to have some sense

although not 100% accurate I liked the guage function that came with the juice, it let me watch my egt's

ran it that way from 100k miles to 180k, at 180k changed the turbo, at 200k changed the injectors

i think a programmer/gauge combo is the cheapest and best dollars spent with on 110k on the odometer
