Diverter Valve...
Friend of mine has a Turbo VW. He changed out his diverter valve - boost/noise lol. Such/same thing on trucks?

No, it's not quite the same as a BOV, in fact, it's much different.
I have one on my Audi 2.0T. I believe most, if not all Audi/VW 1.8T's and 2.0T's have them.
A diverter valve is similar to a blow-off valve in that it relieves boost when you lift the throttle. Instead of venting that charge air to the atmosphere, it dumps right back into the turbo on the intake side. So basically air "diverts" from the manifold to the intake side of the turbine.
The theory is that the compressed air being released into the intake (I believe angle and port shape has something to do with it) will keep the turbo spooled better than just releasing charge air to the atmosphere.
I don't know what's wrong with the people on the Audi/VW forums, but by and large, they're some of the most unintelligent people with little to no product knowledge.
Bottom line is, the diverter valve works like a BOV, but it is more efficient and does not sound as cool. Our trucks never came with diverter valves or BOV's as they're not necessary.
Ricer idiots who want the sound put a spacer in the diverter valve that dumps the air to the atmosphere causing the sound they want, at the loss of spooling. Idiots. Whatever.
I pulled the BOV off my CTD because the lack of barking didn't make up for the loss of boost. I learned to drive around the bark, and my ET's (and EGT's)went down.
I miss my diesel and the diesel forums. Much more interesting information going around on these boards.

Those little VW's sure are quick. The wife has one with the 1.8T and thing will move!
