Direct fit - straight thru muffler?

O.K.......spent about an hour and a half today at the local NAPA trying to find as close to possible direct fit muffler. Didn't get 'er done! I want round or oval, 4" in 4" out. I would like it about 8 inches longer than factory because the factory pipe reduces to 3.5" in/out for some silly reason!? Needs to be offset in/ out as well. I have read a lot of good about the Donaldson mufflers, but everything I find is straight thru. Will the tailpipe give enough? I want it to look like a clean install. Close to factory. Maybe I am just wanting too much, or I am too cheap to buy an entire system.?! Any ideas? TIA

Yes it will fit and the tail pipe will move enough to compensate the difference. It just moves the angle of the tailpipe... Not too terribly noticable... The rokkteck is a good one but it's spendy!!

No problems with breaking the inlet or outlet of the muffler? Just looks like it would "bind" up everything? I'm willing to try about anything, but don't like wasting money! Not really after a noisey muffler, just a little more would be fine, but want the straight thru and better flow. Do most people cut out the 3.5" ends on the pipes?

Yeah I did break both on my 05 but I didn't weld the factory supports after the muffler the only support it had was right at the axle and tip and at the tranny mount.. Soo there was a lot of weight there.. Them rokkteck's are not light.. While bouncing around in the mountains and hauling bud down some nasty roads it was too much.. Learned my lesson... Next one we put the supports back on...

If you cut the pipe off just passed the rear of the cat you just need a short stick of 4" to make the straight through muffler line up perfect.

No cat on mine. I wonder if that makes a difference? I'll look at my buddies 05 later and see what his looks like compared to mine.

The 03 is 3.5 on both ends. Get a 3.5" muffler ,it will be easier. You may need some extra pipe if the muffler you buy is short. At least on my old 03 the tail pipe section swedged up to 4" only . Every thing else was 3.5.

Mine seems to be 4" from the turbo to the muffler and the tailpipe too. The only part that is 3.5" is the muffler. It says SO according to the vin, but also has the 48 trans so I'm wondering what kind of matchup I really have! Engine plate says 250hp as well.......

Forget the tail pipe. Run any muffler you want then route the pipe out the side in front of the wheel. This is a great mod! Better sound (not louder, just better), less pipe under there and room for the air tank. Plus no more black rear bumper.

You probably have the 3.5" down pipe...
