difference in D70s??

I am wanting to make my 2wd into a 4wd and I found a 4X4 with a bad motor to make it happen. My question is which rear do I most likely have in my truck, D60 or D70?? Also the truck I found is a dualie. I want to stay single rear wheel so is there any difference between a SRW D70 and a DRW D70. Lastly, the truck I found is a 92 and mine is a 91 and the 92 is a 1 ton. I have heard the frames were stronger in 92 and 93. Is this true and would I be better off just moving my motor, cab and bed to the 1 ton frame??

The dualie axle will be more narrow than the single wheel axle. You can look on the casting of the 3rd member and it will tell ya if you have a dana 60 or a 70. They are almost identical in appearance so its hard to see a difference without looking for the markings.

This sounds backwards to me. The dually axle should be wider to allow additional inner wheel space between the inner rear tire and the rear leaf springs.

I don't have the measurements but the dually is the widest followed by the cab and chassis model, slightly more narrow and the single rear wheel is the most narrow.

A 1st gen DIESEL dually will have a D70.

Just swap you good engine into the dually truck, and converter it to SRW, you get the stronger frame and 4wd.

Thanks Crossy son, I been watching your vids on youtube. After I get a set of gauges im gonna have my laptop on the bench next to me when I do my pump tweaks. How bout doing a vid of installing a 3200 spring. Going that far into the pump worries me.

D71 is the 3.07 rear.

The 71 distinguishes the difference in the housing/carrier I believe.

TrkEnvy. Next truck we get here that doesn't already have a 3200 spring in it, I'll make a vid.

I did the 3200 spring in the 93, when the pump was on the bench. Easy as cake.
