Difference from 07 to 09?

I hopped in and drove an 09 the other day, new one from a *******. Almost pulled the trigger as they were willing to give me more for mine than what I paid for it but I just couldn't justify doubling my payments.

Anyway, that thing had noticeably more power and response than my 07. Even sitting there idling it had a deeper tone to it and you could hear the turbo, then when you hit the E-brake button it really sounded cool. Mine doesn't do that (at least as much, you really have to listen for it). The salesman said that the Blue-tech system on the 09 is different than the system on my 07, then when he brought his sales manager out to try to pressure me into buying it he said that the emissions and everything is the same as what I have now but they do have a better EGR/DPF package and some different stuff in the computer that helps it burn better. Sounds to me like neither of them really knew what they were talking about.

I've been told by the place that's worked on mine that there are some "updated" parts available for these that help with the DPF plugging all the time, such as turbo, EGR, DPF, cat, etc... but mine has to fail before I can get that stuff. It'll "fail" at 101k miles.

???

Curious as to whether or not my turbo is working properly, all this talk about them getting plugged up has me wondering how I tell when that happens. Hearing the 09 whistle as it sat idled with the E-brake on and how you could hear the turbo alot has me concerned about mine, with my E-brake on you cannot hear the turbo, just a grumble sound, and to get the turbo whistle while driving it you need to really get after it and it only last for a second or 2 and it goes away, even pulling a trailer I don't really hear it spool up but for a second or 2.

Auto or manual? If auto, do this test on a long highway stretch. Have truck in Tow/Haul mode, exhaust brake on, run it up to 70 or whatever is allowed. Let off and let it pull itself down to a stop. Do this a few times and it should help to free up the sliding part of your turbo and it also should allow you to hear it better.

I would get 5 different results, one time I do it it'll darn near put you through the windshield and the next time (same road/speed/etc.) it wont really do anything, next time it might work through a couple of the gears with mild braking pressure felt.

I hate using the tow/haul when towing a trailer through the hills, let off the throttle to coast down a hill and it immediately starts downshifting and will almost stop you, and let me tell you that is one way to find out if the road is at all slick!! But then, a couple hills later it it might slow you down just a little bit and you can maintain a steady speed...???

If I feather the pedal, it seems to downshift less hard. If I let off quickly, it downshifts very hard. That seems to be my experience and I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it.
