Talking Diesel gauge history problems

Was wondering if anyone has had bad fuel gauges? I have had 2 dodges one gas and the current a Cummins, both the gauges went out on them. I also know of a guy I did business with who lost his gauge. Dodge said it would cost $1500 for a new tank. I said * NO!! so I still don’t have a working gauge, not a big problem. I am still very happy with the dodge I have 200,000 miles and it runs SWEET.

That has got to be the most common problem with these trucks. Why would you want to replace the tank? Either lift the bed or drop the tank and you can relace the sending unit.

Dont replace the tank for a busted gauge though. Like MnTom said, just replace the sender.

well the only way i know how to do this would be to drop the tank or lift the bed.

havent done it so i cant really speak from experience, maybe someone who has can tell you.

if i had to do it though, its definately something id attempt myself though

really just depends on how much time you have and how comfortable you feel doing it.

main reason i see to do it is saving money, lol

I have a crazy fuel guage on my current 95 1500 (Gas). I had to replace the fuel regulator after I messed it up working on the brake lines (long story). The gas tank wasn't too bad except for spilling gas all over the place. My buddy and I just dropped the tank but the sending unit/filter/pump on the gas holds some gas in it, which is what spilled. It wasn't to bad probably 3-4 hours total. I'm sure you could do it yourself for much less than 600.
