Diesel Fuel Question

Does Diesel Fuel ever really go bad, heres why i ask, i have a old semi that has been sitting for about 2 1/2 to 3 years now and both fuel tanks are full. Can i just remix the diesel up and use it it or does it go bad like regular gas does? what do yall think its about 200 gal of fuel,

It can grow algae that will plug up a fuel system and cause a lot of damage, the likely hood of that depends on a lot of variables. Tanks that are completely full have less room for condensation which decreases the chances that the fuel is contaminated.....but even that is no guarantee.

I would think long and hard before going forward with that idea.....

I agree w/ Larry. Although it's excruciating to let $1500 worth of fuel go. Drain a couple gallons off the bottom of both tanks and see what you get for water, algae, dirt.

i would siphon it off the top and see what it looks like. i wouldn't mix it up. filter it through a white cloth and see whats there. man, it sure would be a shame to lose that amout of juice. visions of Mad Max 2

Probably better than the new stuff

If it's not contaminated it will probably run better than the ULSD. 200 gallons is a bunch and worth the investment of a filtered pump (about $125 on ebay, etc); also would work for any blending you may want to do. I'd mix some Stanadyne Perf Formula then pump/filter it into your rig. 200 gallons from a couple of years ago will turn out to be a good investment for you

ill give you 200 bucks for it. LOL. just do a clear and bright test.. fill a jar and hold it up to the light. i know after about a month the fuel in are Emergency diesel generator will get algae and then we have to drain it to the purifer and send new fuel up. yours might also have gelled up, pending on how cold KY gets

Diesel algae grows at the fuel water interface. If the fuel isn't mixed up any water present will be at the tank bottom with algae on top next to the diesel. Fuel at the top of the tank should be fine. If you want to check for contamination the lower part of the tanks would be the place to look.

thanks yall i'll let u know what i see and find out, these are well sealed tanks so i'm hoping there isn't that much junk in them and they are stainless steel so rust shouldn't be an issue. quick question wouldn't a 2 micro filter filter most of the algae, a bisic water fileter that u put on your sink to filter your drinking water filter out all the bad crap...... any way i'll let yall know what i decide

I would add a generous amount of diesel additive to it and put a new fuel filter in your truck. I also wouldn't use the last 5 gallons on the bottom. Do that & you will be ok.

Pri-D

Tests have shown where PRI-D has gone a step further, actually restoring old fuel to refinery-fresh conditions.
