July 1st I was seeing 5.30 a gallon at my local 76 station. Then it dropped to 5.09 on the 16th of July. Then by the 19th it was 4.99. Yesterday 4.89. TODAY 4.699... I hope it keeps dropping. By X-mas at this rate we will be less than a dollar/gallon! LOL [duhhh]

The market is kind of BS to me. Price has not dropped more than $.05 here. Seems that retailers are quick to hike the price but not to lower it.

Your right, and why would it drop in different places and be higher in others? Weird...

Hardly a statistical sample, but the Shell station near me (Thousand Oaks, CA) was 5.19 for the longest time (several weeks) and has been inching down the past few days (now 4.93).

After 2+ weeks of oil dropping in price, the Valero station by the house finally lowered diesel to $4.62 from $4.69. Still seems like bs to me.

Paid $4.519 north of DC yesterday.
It is BS being they export a lot of diesel (up to 500,000 barrels and each one holds 42 US gallons IIRC) every day to other countries.

That's because you have a bunch of brain dead (if they ever had one) non elected morons (not that the elected morons are much better) - a.k.a. Translink board of directors that have added 6 cents a litre to your costs not to mention what ever other taxes the bunion heads in city hall have added.
Here in the valley we pay the low, low price of $1.46 per litre (about $5.50)
I wonder what it is in Sumas.... in Bellingham it is about $4.79.

it seems that in some areas where diesel sales stayed pretty consistant, even with prices near $5/gallon, they aren't lowering their prices despite oil prices falling by $25/barrel and spot prices for station owners dropping significantly as well.
even though your fuel taxes in AR are around .30 less per gallon than Roperteacher in California, your per gallon price is the same. nice huh........ can't even blame the speculators for this one.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Exxons record profit announcement this week?
I keep hearing oil is down around 123-126 a barrel and prices still reflect the 146/per barrel. Last time it was at 123 seemed as though I was paying 3.79 or 3.89, can't have record breaking profits like that though.
Ours has dropped a measley dime......yeah!!! At this rate It'll still cost $150 to fill up my truck by december. [yuk][yuk] But don't drill off shore....[duhhh][duhhh]

so even though there is not a supply problem, and the price of oil has backed off around $25/barrel, because somehow the pump prices are being kept high, drilling is the answer?????
don't get me wrong, i'm for doing whatever it takes to keep the U.S. running on reasonably priced fuel, but some of the junk that goes on seems like nothing short of blackmail, so the oil companies can get what they want. [rant]

Drilling is part of the answer. Increased supplies will reduce the speculators ability to manipulate the price. The more supply we have the less likely it is for Hurricanes in the gulf, or threats in the Middle east to become an excuse for the prices to go up.
Making the speculators pay more for their futures would help though.
So would finding a decent inexpensive alternative. I've yet to see anythng that excites me thus far.

i wonder if the algae thing will pan out, or will it not be able to make the transition to real world feasibility.
it just seems like since diesels were never meant to run on petroleum products in the first place, it should be relatively easy to bring a cost effective alternative to market that they can run on, without wrecking havoc on their fuel systems. unfortunately now that diesels are increasingly 'environmentally friendly', they are also more particular about what they like to run on.

I'd like to see that pan out. It doesn't look like Bio from Soy is going to work out. What little we're doing with soy and corn(ethanol) has driven the price of grains up to the point that it's not cost effective.
I'd also like to see more CNG vehicles with the refueling stations to keep em rolling.

here's a story with an interesting graph about how pump prices aren't dropping with the falling price of oil.

if you look at the gragh, it looks like gas is overpriced right now by about .45/gallon. it's really amazing how many people in the oil/gas biz have no issues with hosing us for every cent they can.

oil dropped again today, to it's lowest price since May 5th. on May 5th gas averaged around $3.35/gallon- today the average price is around $3.95/gallon and in 12 states the average price is still over $4/gallon. makes sense, right?

this weekend just paid 4.34 gal at LOVE's between Zanesville and Cambridge Ohio, then saw it for 4.25 gal at Flying J on 70 east of Columbus. Monday I found it for 4.29 at Marathon just North of Rickenbacker Airport on Alumcreek drive. Everwhere else I've looked its from 4.53 to 4.69. I try to keep a mental note of the places that drop as quick as they raise the prices, would perfer to by there even if 2-3cents more a gal.
