Either the 16.5 barely fits, or he ground down the calipers. I personally don't see ANY advantage to running 16.5's over 17's.

a little cheaper on tires maybe I can get a set of 4 36x12.50 R16.5 hummer tires for under 400 bucks.

I have read something on here about people grinding down the calipers to make the 16.5 fit.

Im just guessing here but I think a 16.5 might fit if the wheel was steel. They're thinner than aluminum wheels most times and that might provide enough clearance. Also depends on the rim ID where it flares in after the bead lock......remember 16.5's dont really have a bead retention ring, at least the ones I have had dont. I could get the tire off bead just by letting all the air out on a 16.5
