What did I do wrong?

This morning I pulled my fuel screw and welded a bit (3/16) more on the end because it bottomed before runaway. I reinstalled it to where the throttle would just hang for a second before comming back down(just about bottomed again).Idle rpm was at 850-900 so i backed it off adjusted the smoke screw and high idle screw. Went for a test drive, truck was very flat still pulled hard but not like last night. Boost went from 38 psi to 30 psi egts are down 200 degs and way less smoke. Dose'nt pull very hard above 2100 rpm, feels like a stock truck with the pump turned up a little. where did my fuel go?
thanks Eric

Sounds like the AFC isn't working. Does the little pin pop out when you pull on the throttle lever?

Elaborate on this little pin "popping out" business, please.

Also, a picture with the pin pointed out, or circled, would help my weak mind to better grasp the situation.

Thanks.

I'm talking about the pin that rides against the AFC cone/fuel pin/power pin. Comes into the bore from the front, gets stuck sometimes.

Pulled the afc top off today and checked everything out. The pin looks fine and all moves like normal, I rechecked the other adjustments but must still be missing something because it's no better. Any more ideas?

All you had out was the fuel screw, right?

Wouldn't hurt to throw a fuel filter at it, but the coincidence seems unlikely.

Yes Wanna only adjustments were made to the fuel screw and smoke screw. I got a fuel filter just to try it, not like there expensive. I think i will try to back the fuel screw out a turn and see what happens. I checked for loose clamps on the ic tubes hopeing to find a leak but everything is tight. I'll mess with it abit more and see what i find.

My brother had that happen to him after pulling his afc top off for adjustments. So he pulled it to see what he could find. Nothing. Put it back on and it ran fine again.

I hope it isn't the ip but you never know, the lift pump went bad in January (when it was 20 below zero). Today i pulled the banjo bolt and drilled and taped it for a guage so i can rule out the lift pump. Anybody recomend a good shop to rebuild a VE? I will back off on the pump timing just to see if it makes a difference. I moved a load of firewood today so before i left i adjusted everything back to where it originaly was at last week. No difference only made 30# boost and was slow to get that. Egt never broke 1000 deg climbing hills at 60 mph with a box full of wet elm. On the plus side i found a shop with a superflow dyno within 2 hrs of me so if i ever get it to run good again i can put it on the rollers.
