How to detect clutch slippage

Another trick I've heard of is:
Drive truck up to an immovable object (tree, wall, another vehicle)
Place bumper right up against said object.
Push in the clutch, shift to 5th or 6th gear (depending on how many you have)
Let out the clutch.
If the engine dies, your clutch is fine.
If the engine doesn't die, your clutch is slipping.

I guess that would make a good excuse to the wife why I need a new Road Armor bumper. "Honest honey, I had to do this to check my clutch. Thank God it's fine. Now all I have to do is replace the stock bumper with a stout one so I can check my clutch every time I change the oil. "
hmmm....I wonder if she'll go for it?
