Death of a Salesman

Up here in Ontario 2 wheel drive one tons are hard to find. I have been in contact with 4 or 5 dealerhips for the past few months trying to find a good used 2003. About a month or so ago a salesman named Mike gave me a call to let me know he had got one in. A young guy with lots of enthusiasm and eager to help. I liked him right away and wanted to give him a sale.

After a test drive I came home, thought it over and decided to go back and give him an offer. He was a young guy new to the business and I had asked him if it was the HO with the 48re tranny and he said it was. After we checked the option sheet for the truck we discovered it was an SO, 47re. He had made an honest mistake and we both learned that all 03's weren't HO.

We talked a little, told me his wife was pregnant and just generally got to know each other a little. He said he would keep an eye out for one and give me a call.

Today I checked the truck trader for our area and there were two trucks the same colour showing at his dealership with different mileage. I decided to give him a call to see if this was another one that had come in.

When I asked for Mike the answer I got left me speechless for a few seconds. The salesman I got said Mike was no longer there. I asked if he moved on to another dealerhip, no said this salesman Mike was killed in an car accident. His funeral was today. To make it worse his wife delivered their second baby the day after he died. This was a young family with a lot of living to do.

I felt like crap for the rest of the day. It just goes to show you that you just never know what's coming next.

Life is short. Pays to be ready when it happens. Been there, done that. Thank you, good paramedics. I think God took one look at me and said "send him back, I have some more work to do on him".

ThankfulBob
