What is the deal with Donaldson Mufflers???

I have an 07 CTD and would like to upgrade flow characteristics and reduce EGT's of my existing exhaust system. My stock system is already 4" and I have installed a test tube to replace the catastrophic converter. There are no smog laws where I live. I have been told that the Donaldson muffler is "the only way to go". Is that true? Are there better alternatives. Should I chuck the 4" stock system and go for the 5"?

You don't need a whole new system unless you're over 600 hp or so. Donaldson or Nelson mufflers are a cheap alternative to loud obnoxious aftermarket muffler, my 40" Nelson was $67, pics and part numbers in my gallery.

I love the 51" Donaldson on my F350 /cummins conversion.Very quite no drone and seems to flow my twins fine. Much better than the Magna flow I replaced.

Puts off a very nice tone, and at least for me, I can hear that HTT sing over anything else coming out of there!

Is there a Cummins store down there?
If not maybe try one of the big rig shops?

They put mine in with 2-45* bends to make up for the offset of the stock muffler:
