DC diesel Sprinter is out...........
Has anyone seen the diesel Sprinter out on the roads yet? I saw a white cargo van yesterday. Man!.....so ugly it was almost cute; kind of the way a Honda Element is. I was surprised to see the Freightliner badge on the rear door. I guess they're building the cargo version, and Chrysler in doing the passenger model. Sitting next to it at a stoplight, it idles and gets off the line pretty quietly. But, a sprinter it ain't : as I left it behind pretty easily even with my stock engine.

Dont be fooled. That little MB is pretty quick. We have been servicing them at Freightliner for about the past year. The fuel filter change is PIA. No tranny dipstick either. Have to bring it into service to check the tranny fluid. Pulled the engine out of one about 3 months ago. Piston type fuel pump locked up and rounded off the shaft housing on the gear cover and the pump piston took a puke out the side of it. Not pretty. MB said the only way it could do that was gas contamination. Took an analysis of the fuel and it came back just fine. Still havent figured out why it did it.

We would buy one for our family business if it wasn't so tall. Even the shortest model is too tall for most parking garages.

I got a couple for work to use for delivery vans in March. They originally started out under the freightliner name and are now switching to Dodge. They are only at some dodge dealers not all for some reason. Dodge is selling both cargo and passenger. The dodge tradesman line of vans is now gone so get them while they last. They do come in 3 wheelbases, 2 roof heights and single or dually. Not sure if Freightliner is going to keep them or not. No dipstick in tranny is right. They say it will go I think 70k before a tranny fluid change, and up to 30k between oil changes with their assyst maintenance system that monitors the oil. Think it comes stock with synthetic oil. The drivers love them, pretty peppy for the small size motor and vgt turbo is kinda cool. They have a bunch of neat features not bad for the money we will see if they last.

I still say they are you-glee to the max. Too Euro looking.
