Day Time Running Lights
I HAVE A 2001 2500 AND WOULD LIKE TO TURN THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT'S OFF. ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO DO THIS WITH OUT THE HELP OF A DEALER? I HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS CAN NOT BE DONE. IS THIS TRUE? i KNOW THAT IT CAN BE DONE ON OTHER MAKES OF TRUCKS BUT NOT SURE ABOUT DODGE. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

They used to have a daytime running lamp module but i'm not sure if/when they stopped using that. if it still has one it will be on the fender well near the master cylinder. it's a little black box and if you unhook it you'll have to jump a couple of wires so that the high beam light in the dash will work correctly If not there may be a way to do it with the drb at the dealer.

It's not that easy to disable them without effecting other circuits.
Way I did it for a friend was install a switch in the dash that jumped across the parking brake switch. No more daytime lights but the parking brake light will be lit when the switch is on. This will not effect your regular lights.
The way my friend was doing it before the dash switch was to push down the parking brake one click. Not enough to engage the brakes but enough to trip the pedal switch.

Just pull the plug on the DRL module and use a jumper to get the high beam indicator to work.
I don't know if the wire colors are the same, but I have a photo in my gallery of the DRL jumper for the High beam indicator. My box started making the headlights flicker and cut out on DRL during the day.. I tried getting a box from the wreckers, but they were hard to find. I just gave up and pulled the box out, and jumpered the high beam signal wire to the high beam indicator wire. Everything else works just fine.

Why do you guys want to disable the DRL's? It has been proven time and again to be safer......you don't want to be safe?
BTW, please turn the CAPS off.....I agree with J BODY - it makes it annoying to read.

I suppose bulb life is somewhat subjective.....it would be hard to say if running the high beams at half voltage affects bulb life at all - I certainly don't notice shortened bulb life. IMO, what isn't so subjective is the safety benfit.....bulbs are very inexpensive compared to lives......but you are right, I guess - to each his own.

Maybe the truck you have was originally built for Canada. All vehicles built for Canada have to have daytime driving lights....it's the law!! I personally think they are a great thing! There are times when the lights will get your attention before you'd otherwise notice the other vehicle. On the other hand I've never noticed a problem with having to replace bulbs at any more frequency. My bulbs are still original (5 1/2 yrs.)

I read an article a while back that talked about DRLs only being a benefit if you lived above the 45th parrallel or something to that effect. Most of the US and Canada don't need them and they are a marketing ploy to sell the modules. Here in the US where I was taught to drive we were told to "read" the oncoming traffic. So if you saw someone in the oncoming lane with their headlights on in the middle of the day there was either bad weather ahead of you (where they came from), they were up all night driving or they were drunk The DRLs for the most part are a nuisance and waste of time. Just another way of becoming numb and used to seeing lights on for no apparent reason. Just my and some others .02 worth.

A marketing ploy to sell DRL modules?!?! Uh, ok....I doubt any manufacturer is making a killing off of DRL modules - it certainly wasn't the manufacturers idea to have them!!.....I don't care what parallel you are from, you see vehicles sooner and from a greater distance when their headlights are on......most drivers don't seem to be capable of turning on their lights when visabilty drops for any reason so, the vehicle turns them on for you.....it is a simple as that.....if the object is brighter, it is easier to see.....why do you think motorcycles have been this way for years?

I have a 2001 2500 and it has no day time running lights or thay were turned off by the previous owner. I would like to have them so I guess I will have to look see if thay aree disabled

Only those sold in Canada have the Daytime Running Lights.

Probably because most of the vehicles that you encounter in the daytime don't have DDL's, it wouldn't make any difference. If you were to drive in a Canadian city where the majority of vehicles have them...you would notice a difference on the visibility of the oncoming vehicles. It's kinda like "don't knock it til you try it!!"
