day time running lights

Don't think there is a relay, what there is a module under the hood, drivers side rear wheelwell. Problem is when you disable the DRL by unplugging the module you also lose some other functions. The only one I can think of right now is the 4wd indicator lamp but there are more. The fellow asked me to disable the DRL on his '97 couldn't live with the other features it disabled and I ended up installing a new switch that jumped the switch for the parking brake. DRL are out when the switch is on but the parking brake warning light is on. He felt he could live with that easier. You don't notice the PB warning light so much in the day, at night when your lights are on you flip the switch and the warning light goes out. You can do the same thing by pushing down your parking brake pedal one click.
There may be other ways to disable the DRL but I don't know them.

THere is a post here that I searched with the pinout for the DRL controller. YOU could put the switch or permanently ground the feed wire from the parking brake switch without having the warning lite on all the time.
I unplugged mine as it was faulty and caused my lights to flash. With it unhooked the only thing you don't have is the high beam indicator. Everything including the 4WD lite works. I am trying to figure out how to get the highbeam lite to work, but the lite in the dash is an LED and you need a resistive circuit to enable it.
The wire feeding the parking break sensor is the white/black I believe, its the thinnest one. I was thinking of cutting it and grounding the wire to the module to see if it would work. I have not tried it yet.
Do a search on DRL and ALPINERAM posted a picture of the DRL pinout.
