dana 70 axle bolts- lock washers???

dana 70 axle bolts- lock washers???

hi- I'm trying to pull axles out of my fed ex step van w/ a dana 70 in it. I removed all bolts, (yes the 8 on axle flange) and it wont budge. it looks as if this axle has lock washers on it, but hey are possibly a cone shaped lock washer, fitting in to a tapered hole on the axle flange??? anyone seen this???

I am pretty sure that there is no c clip on this axle, but i cannot budge the axle, even with a slide hammer. all the floating axel's ive done in the past just pulled out when you removed the bolts.

Take a hammer and give it a whack right in the middle.

I have seen those, they are tapered cone split washer things, the only way that I have found to get them out is to hammer lightly on the outside edge of the axle flange right next to where the cone washer is. put your hand over the cone or put a bolt slightly in, because when they come out they go flying and you don't want to loose them.

the center-hit approach works best, in my experience. They don't go flying like when you tap the outside flange.

hey- thanks everybody- I got them buggers loose....

big sledge hitting the center of the axle shaft.
