damp under carpet

I was pulling wires today for a new set of speakers and the padding is damp not soggy but damp, this is behind the drivers seat to the inside of the rear speaker panel. I didnt leave any windows open and I checked the condensate drain "I Think thats what it was" any suggestions on what might be wrong.

It could be a possibility that your cargo lamp/ 3rd brake light is leaking. Its pretty common in these trucks. Even if it doesn't look like it is leaking, take it off and apply some silicone around the seal.

Its a PITA. Remove the door panels, the ends of those boots clip into the door and into the door jamb... remove these and straighten them out as much as possible. From here it should be fairly simple to fish the wires through with a coat hanger.
Have fun

Great Idea!!!
I did what you said, I used a piece of solid copper wire and it worked great.
Thanks again

You might want to check the seal around your rear window. Have a someone spray it with a garden hose and watch behind the seat. That's wear mine was coming from. If it is and it's not a slider the glass company will have to break your window to replace the seal. Good Luck

Mine was leaking in 3 places:

1. The a/c duct, which I added about a foot of vinyl hose to the nipple on the firewall to extend it down.

2. The rear brake light gasket was shot- there was about a 1/4" gap, maybe more, between the brake light housing and the cab. A LOT of water can come through that.

Ok, so I thought I had everything fixed... nope, still AT LEAST one more:

3. Pop the hood, on the passenger side near the hood hinge mount, is a body seam. It runs diagonally down the area between the fender and the firewall, then runs horizontal for a few inches. This seam had a tiny crack in it, enough to let in water. There are a lot of pockets in this area for leaves and trash to collect. The water will be dammed up and can cause even more problems. Clean this area out real good, remove the trim around the windsheild wipers, and clean it out too. Its amazing how much gunk/crap/leaves/sticks can get down between the grates. I just cleaned the cracked area(actually a crack in the factory sealant) real good, and ran a bead of silicone.

I think this is the last leak, but I still have the carpet out to see. HOPEFULLY there are no more.
