Dad Blamed Motor Mounts

Too bad we can't use exclimation marks, "at" symbols, pound signs, and such in our posts, because I don't think I can truly express my feelings about what has happened with my motor mounts without the symbols.
Any loosening on that point Dave?

Symbols? You can use symbols, they just need to be unorthodox.

Or just type random words. They work as swear words.

OK, I'll do my (self edit) best.
My engine started to make a grubling sound under throttle angle, and I figured out pretty quick that my engine was listing to starboard and hitting my bypass filter with the alternator! I shined a light down at the
mount (because nothing ever breaks in the daytime when it's warm) and found that the restraint tang are totally bent.
I bought one new mount (that's all they had, I'll get the drivers side mount from Napa) I realized that the entire mount is supposed to be encased in rubber. Mine have never looked like that as far as I can remember...
Now I get to lay on a frozen slap and try to find a combination of 6x6 sections that will get my 3 1/2 ton jack to pick the engine up off of the wasted mounts. They are both toast by the way.

Anyone else had this issue?
I'm going to torque the engine to the frame with a giant wratchet strap until I can get to the nasty job....

My rig is a 92 with about 180+K and my motor mounts look fine. The rubber is fully intact.

My only complaint is that at around 100k, the passenger side mount sheared the bolt that holds the mount to the bracket. I think i remeber these are only 5/16" bolts in double shear on each side. I remember thinking that a 5/16" bolt is rediculously small to be holding up a cummins. I put in a grade 8 in its place, and havent had any issues since.

Mark, Have you had a problem with oil getting on the mounts for a prolonged period of time? Because oil will deteriorate the rubber. I have over 350,000 on mine and they seem to be fine. But mine has never leaked much oil. It just uses it.

I replaced both engine mounts plus the trans mount bushings in mine. Helped alot with the clutch engagement chatter, but it's like sitting in a paint shaker when I start it on a cold morning. FWIW watch the clearance between the head and the firewall when you lift it to change the mounts. I used NAPA mounts, they seem to be holding up fine.

You can use symbols, you just can't spell anything with them.

From the site rules:
In addition, for the use of this forum, profane posts should be considered those completely spelled words, or partially spelled words with use of keyboard symbols that suggest a profane meaning.
So %#@! (comic strip cussing) is fine, but using symbols to avoid the censor software is not.

Could be that. Now that I am looking at it, the rubber looks in tact, so I'm not at all sure why my engine is now laying over on the &^#@$& turbo outlet! (Thanks Dave, I love cartoon cussing. Truth be told I very rarely let a cussword slip.)

I tried to turn the engine over in reverse with the brake on to lift the engine enough to jamb a 2x4 between the head and the block to save the turbo! Couldn't get that to work.

I'm stumped, and am not happy.

No it isn't. I've had comic strip cussing edited out of my posts before.

Not yet. It's been very cold. I hope I didn't tweak the crossmember/frame.

Can you start it, lock the brakes, and slip the clutch in reverse to shift the motor over and then kill it in gear?

I tried but the torque stress from the mounts overcomes the compression of the engine and it turns back.
