CUMMINS VS. POWERSTROKE

This is my first diesel. My friend has a 2001 Powerjoke and all he talks about is how his has more torque and more hp. I have heard that Cummins is still the best and I need the best argument I can find. I know mines better, but help me out guys.

Cummins has seven main bearings if I remember right. How many does the Ford have? In all fairness, they are both good engines but the Cummins is a medium duty engine and the Ford is a light duty also if I remember right.

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE

Here's your ammo:

Fact: The Cummins is officially rated as a "medium" heavy duty engine, whereas the Powerstroke is rated as a "light" heavy duty engine. In other words, the Cummins is rated as being a heavier duty engine.

Fact: Ford uses this same Cummins engine in their bigger, heavier trucks like the 600-700 series, which will be used to pull heavier loads for more miles than what our pickups will typically see. If the Powerstroke were indeed the better/stronger engine, wouldn't Ford use it in the bigger trucks instead of the Cummins? Sure they would, but they know better.

Fact: The Cummins engines will need typically need rebuilt when they get 600,000-800,000 miles on them, and there are many trucks that have gone even further without incident. The Powerstroke will need rebuilt at 300,000-400,000 miles max.

Fact: Ford wanted to use the Cummins in their pickups also, but they were not allowed to use them due to contracts already signed between Chrysler and Cummins.

Chris

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE

FACT: It is a pointless argument.

FACT: You have the truck you want.

FACT: He has the truck he wants.

FACT: If he wants to go on and on about HP and torque and whatever ad nauseum, he probably measures his you know what every morning too. IOW he is a pinhead who likes to ramble, let him.

OK, please keep it friendly here guys. Truck and oil brand discussions usually go south quick so lets keep it civil and somewhat professional.
Thanks.

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE

I think any diesel is superior to a gas truck. I appreciate the powerstroke but I just happen to like the cummins better--make that much better!!! I've owned both so I have a base for comparison. ;D

and YIPPEE! I finally lost my 'noobie status' ;D ;D ;D

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE

a good friend of mine has a 99 PSD...it's a nice running engine and very powerful, it doesn't get the gas mileage mine gets and he's had a few problems (ie: waterpump, problems starting in cold) but it pulls well and shifts nice...he often was surprised mine was sluggish compared to his however the low end torque on mine was deffinitely greater he even admitted (and mine sounds cooler)..well, now he's ...due to recent upgrades, he now see's thee old DODGE tailgate when the light turns green!!! but in all fairness, it is a nice, sturdy truck.

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE

Load up a trailer the way your buddy wants it loaded, then hook his up to the trailer and have him pull it up a hill. Clock his time and speed. Do the same with the Cummins, note time and speed, and amount of black smoke. Nuff said. ;D
