There was a pulling "powerstroke" in the open class that was pretty impressive last year, but they blew it up. It costs a LOT of money to get any power out of one though, and most parts are one off custom deals. they said the motor in the ford costs 150k dollars. It had a v-8 style p-pump and basically everything on it was custom made. So i guess what im saying is that anything is possible with enough money, but in general, no the powerstrokes wont make the power a cummins will.

Sure it wasn't a DT466? I've heard of 1 or 2 on the pulling circuts that had a P pump or similar conversion done on it.
While I think the PSD is a good engine and certainly has its place its certainly not capable of what a 12V can do right now. Maybe one day it'll run neck and neck, but its not now. I wanted more power from my PSD, but after weighing the costs of what I'd have to invest to get there and some of the possible reliability issues that come from a 400-450hp engine I decided to invest in a 12V.
For me its a classic case of I like the Cummins engine, but don't really like the wrapper. I like the Ford wrapper, but I'm somewhat on the fence about the engine. This is talking about 7.3L engines, I won't comment on the 6.ohno.

Injection pump off a Mack 998 cubic inch V-8. Usually see a few of those in the big rig pulling circuits. I have one sitting at home, not a little pump by any means.

I wish that was the case. All the 6.0 service trucks and rental trucks we have had at work have had issues, though some less than others. I'm hoping the 2 new 07s we just bought have less problems. At least now we're looking to go with F650s next year possibly, so that means a Cummins or Cat.
