I wouldent make a habit of it(although I have in the past). I have heard that people have fried some of the wiring on there machines in the past doing that. Now like I said before I have done it way more times than you could imagine with no problems. My DS 650 that I recently sold was a great machine with the exception of constant electrical problems. The battery was always going dead. One time on a riding trip abought 6-7 hours from home I even used the truck to charge the battery every few hours of riding. I was in the middle of now where and did not want to go home because of a lousy battery so every hour or two I would head back to the truck and charge the battery for 15-20 minutes. mazing how fast they turn over when you put 1500 amps threw a 13 amp system.

You have to be careful and quick removing the big battery from the circuit. A poor big battery is hard for a scooter alternator to try to charge...my brother fried the alternator on his 1980 FLT after leaving the near run down car battery connected after the motor started.
