Cummins in an older Ford F250??

I saw in diesel power mag they had an article on the 1000hp Ford with a Cummins. We've been planning on getting a 2500 dodge with the Cummins, quad cab for the wife to bomb around in and she is hooked on the idea. I'm just not to sure about the cost and keep telling her as long as we plan on keeping it a mega cab would be best for when we go from 3 kids 10 and under to 3 kids that are 17 and younger. I know Ford had those full size 4 door trucks and she likes the body style.

I told her maybe we should look for one of those with the powerjoke in it and pull out the stroke and put in a Cummins. I want to do a basic swap, use a 12 valve of course hopefully find a truck with a 5 speed. What kind of $$$$ am i looking at for something like this? Adapter plate for the trans? Engine mounts? We won't be going mega high horsepower, maybe push the 300hp mark, she won't need more than that. Any kind of crazy electronics I'd have to be looking out for? Kinda why I want to go with the 12 valve, should be able to wire that up pretty painlessly.

I'd plan on selling the powerchoker to get some money to put towards a good Cummins. Would you guys go through it while it was out, i.e, gaskets etc etc? I'd want something that was reliable cause it would be our family venture off to other states vehicle and it will be around and used daily for about another 15 years, when all our kids move on to college and such.

Any ideas on cost, things I may need to modify, adjust etc would be helpful. Kinda want to get an idea for some cost comparison with buying something new/used in a mega cab, say 3 years down the road which is when my truck will be paid off, so we do have time.

www.fordcummins.com

that will get you started...there's a couple other websites with conversions as well i forget them...i would think you would be looking close to 10000$ if you had someone do it and minimally 5000$ if you did the work and were able to sell the powerstroke for a couple grand

Gee, wonder if there is a site out there that shows how to put a stroker in a Dodge or Chevy.
