Cummins news...

As of a few minutes ago, Cummins (CMI), our beloved engine manufacturor, shot up over 20% in early trading. Cummins is up over $30 in the last week. This is a spectacular performance for any company. This would be a great increase for an IPO or a whiz bang high technology stock, let alone an engine builder.

Once again I was caught snoozing and had all money tied up in other stocks... Kicking myself as I speak...

Jan26,07 stock price was $60.70..... Today it's trading at $103...WOW!!!

Stocks ... humph! Why does everybody think they have to buy "a stock" in order to be "an investor." Silly, me thinks.

Never said you had to buy stock to be an investor. Anything you have time with and care about is an investment. My dog is an investment...

There's a real shortage of Cummins-Onan Portable Gensets in the mining/oil industries right now. Could have something to do with it.

This probably has something to do with Cummins entering into the natural gas compression market. I got to see one of their NG engines the other day with an Ariel behind it... sounded pretty smooth and looked like it was well designed, too soon to tell about reliability/durability though.

The Cummns stock is partly climbing because there is talk of a bigger engine company buying them.

Any guesses?

The main reason it rose significantly was the fact that earnings were expected to be around 86cents a share but came in at a whopping $1.42 a share blowing away expectations on the street. I have not heard of rumblings of a takeover/buyout but who knows....
