Have you installed the over running alternator pulley..it eliminates belt chirp at shut down which causes belt wear and/or shred..Dodge is aware of this problem and chooses not to fix it on a recall (Nice to know customer safety is a concern at Dodge) Link to TSB:

[QUOTE=Colo_River_Ram;2076326] recall (Nice to know customer safety is a concern at Dodge) Link to TSB:

Mine has over 130,000 miles on it and the belt looks fine. It chirps sometimes and I like that it has that much compression.

Are you sure you're not over-reacting?

Yeah on both of my trucks the belts have been fine. I don't think it's going to increase wear that significantly.

Mine chirps all the time when shutting down. When new I was concerned because it was my first cummins diesel. After learning that it was a common thing I've grown to like it. The 5.9 beast under the hood doesen't like to be turned off.

golly gee wizz 4 belts in less than 30k miles you tell me ......

I will be more than happy to fax you the tsb they gave me when they finally figured it out......It does not affect every truck for the years listed as they had different build codes..

The last belt wrapped itself around the fan clutch and will probably cause it to leak as well.. I'd like to see you drive one of these things with out the belt on it...Or better yet loose one in the middle of rush hour.,

But Hey I'm Over-Reacting

Welcome to driving a heavy duty truck, ever heard a peterbuilt shut down, you'd probably hide behind your truck, with those noises. Or better yet stand next to mine. Walmat has new sets of whitie tighties for cheap.
In short settle down Colo_River_Ram, were are all friends here, I think.

yeah, when I first got mine, I was way more paranoid, but then like you, got used to it, until yesterday when I heard another cummins shut down and it didnt chirp, then I got paranoid again. all my belts look good, I guess I will just shift back to the mindset of diggin the noise.

Mine only does it when I shut it down with the AC on.
