cummins 3500 starting issue

Starting troubles. Got a 2003 Dodge Cummins3500 diesel and having problems starting. Shop replaced a relay and heater element and still turn and turns before it starts. Dodge dealer says that the computer shows no relays or fuel pumps issue and think it may be a bad injector or two. Ouch.I let the plugs heat and still the fuel doesnt seem to get thru. Once it is running, runs great. Any suggestion?

this will get a lot more attention to your issues in the 3rd Gen section. I am sure a Mod will move it for you.

more than likely an injector issue. Also, they don't have glow plugs. Its a grid heater between the intake plate and intake horn.

If it is an injector issue, I know the price is about $500.00 each, am I better off replacing all or sending then out and have them checked to find the bad one. Can I get away from stock and upgrade to a performance injector. Thanks for your help .Doggyman

It could just be the seals/washers on the injector tubes or the tubes needing torqued. The seals are notorious for this kind of problem.

I am having the same problem same year. I have replaced the grid heater and relay...well one of the relays and checking the other with a ohm meter. The truck starts fine as along as it does not go below 30 degrees. Once plugged in it starts fine. Fuel injector cleaner? Will that help?

May be too easy of a fix, but how long has it been since you changed your fuel filter?

fuel filter change

I changed my fuel filter regularly the last one was in February when the problem first started. I have tried several different additives and gona replace my lift relay/fuse and see if that helps. My solenoids to my grid heater are good, had them tested, I just cannot seem to figure it out. Frustrating! Thanks for the post though!
