Exclamation Cruise, a hill & broken throttle spring..

Whoa, what a rodeo that turned out to be. Had my TT hooked up, truck full of family and cruising just south of Calgary. Head into a nice 5% grade and holding nicely at posted speed. Next thing you know as I am admiring the gauges, the boost just jumps straight to 44psi and EGT's rocket to 1500 . I notice with my foot now that the throttle is buried and the cruise is not letting go, gaining speed and the stupid cruise won't disengage!!! Frantic pushing of the button finally lets go. After coming to rest on the side of the road I found out that the springs on the throttle arm have broken off!! I could only imagine any of the big power guys having this happen!

Has anyone else had these little springs fail?? Are they an easy part to get?

there was a recall on that part i think. If it's the same one i'm thinking of, the dealer will take care of it for free.

For me, the throttle never got buried, but sometimes I notice the cruise control doesn't want to disengage. I have to push it several times or hit the brakes before it disengages. My truck did have the throttle cable recall done on it (according to the dealer it was done, but I'm not sure if they actually replaced the cable or they just "inspected it").

Anyone got a picture of how the improved throttle cable is supposed to look? I want to compare it to mine.

Sort of common for the springs to break, no recall.
Hardware store springs work great for me.

Thanks guys.. The cruise getting stuck was the most hair raising part.. I really hope I didn't damage the engine with that stunt.. I will look for some new springs..

Yep, those are fun! I replaced mine with hardware store springs, one 8lb and 1 4lb spring, it's a bit much pedal effort really!

Well the turbo did its part Chris.. Still a fine running unit.. I think a little testing with some different springs will be the ticket. Thanks guys..

Yup.. The peg held the needle in place on that pull for 1500+ degrees. I started out at around 70 mph and by the time the cruise let go it was over 80 mph. I thought my timing bump would have helped with that.

Hmm...I would have though it would cooled better than that...I must have been VERY underfueled to keep it below 1200*

I didn't think stock injectors could put that kind of fuel out. I'm stumped. No leaks that I can determine anywhere, even with stock boots. Pulls nice, but will still blow a good grey stream at WOT and full boost. Dunno...

It still cools way better than the stocker for sure, as long as its under 40 psi, the EGT's are in check..

Must just be the 12cm housing choking it down enough to keep EGT's warm??

Ya, maybe.. I thought the increased Wastegate dumps etc would help out in that area, but maybe not. I don't think I have the fuel for 14cm housing, but I could be wrong. I am not over 400 hp, so I thought this would be a good unit for starters.. Ah, its fine as long as I am driving..LOL..

I know how that works...a valet switch is nice in the situations you aren't!
