I bought a 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel a few weeks ago and when i bought it the cruise didn't work, i push the buttons and nothing happens. i've been told that there is some vacuum line that may cause this. would that line keep anything from happening.

Also check beneath the driver's side battery. The cruise module is located there. Many times, the battery will leak, acid drips down and eats right thru the module. Crummy place for it, but that's just how it is.

i looked by the battery and can't see anything. do i need to remove the battery to be able to see it?

It is certainly easiest to see the cruise servo without the battery tray in the way but if you look around the side of the tray you will see the servo poking out from underneath it. You will have to remove the tray to service the servo.

Jus' Plain Bill

You might want to check the vacuum line running to the cruise control servo. Find where the vacuum line tees off the main vacuum line, disconnect from that end and apply some suction to it, by mouth. If it holds vacuum, then it is probably the servo, if not, replace the vacuum line to the server and you are back in business.

Just finished that on my '95 and it cured the problem.
