Cruise Control Install
I have a 2001 Dodge, came with manual everything and I missed cruise control from my previous truck. I read online and heard the truck is wired up for it, you just need to parts. So I got a whole steering column from a 98 half ton so I swapped the clock spring, steering wheel and cruise control buttons. After making alot of calls I found the servo off a 2001? dodge diesel that caught on fire and I hooked everything up and I hooked the vacuum line off the servo off the T-fitting on the firewall, did I do something wrong since its doesnt seem to work, no light on the dash too

A WAG but I'd bet the feature has to be activated in the computer. I always thought the cruise control was electronic (using the fly-by-wire throttle) by the way the pedal doesn't move when its activated.
Good luck. Hope it works out.

The brake lite sw should have three sets of contacts. One for the brake lites, one to allow the cruise to be engaged and one to disengage the cruise. It could be that your truck only has one set as it didn't come with cruise.

If you have and auto trans there is a vacuum speed control servo controlled by the PCM.
Manual trans trucks don't use the vacuum servo. They are controlled directly by the PCM.

If I remember right, as soon as the PCM sees the first cruise control input, it will recognize that the truck now has cruise. I would make sure the brake light switch has all its wires in the connector.

Turn the key on and switch the cruise on and off. You should be able to hear clicking at the servo. If you hear clicking, the issue is in the brake lamp circuit.
I am not sure if you can use 98 switches on a 01. I don't have the 01 manual handy. I do know that the 94 switch is different than a 98.

According to my service manual, trucks with a diesel engine and a manual transmission do not have servos. Cruise is controlled by the ECM only. If I find any more useful info I'll post it.

Well the steering wheels are the same execpt it being cut you for the buttons to mount on the side, I know the older dodges have the control on the bottem of the airbag, the clockspring hooked up to the wiring that was already there, I checked the brake switch and there are 3 contacts in the switch itself, I have a computer in my truck from a later 01, idk if it had cruise control or not but I'm not sure if it has to be setup in the computer, at the dealer you can by an aftermarlet cruise control system for lik 220 bucks but not anymore but I'm unsure exactly what it comes with
