Crossover Toolboxes???
Hello, its really time for me to get all my tools out of the backseat and I have been looking to get a crossover box for my truck bed. My question is is there anyone who makes a reasonable black diamond plate crossover box? I would love a weathergaurd bbut dont have 650 dollars right now to shell out for one. Have been looking all over around my home and cant seem to find any boxes that are not polished other than weathergaurd. Looking to spend around 400 or less. Any thoughts?

The experience with the cheaper black diamond plate boxes has been one scratch and it gives the the paint somewhere to start flaking off. Thats why I went with a polished drop in.

Delta pro in black would be a great choice. I have the aluminum version and am very happy. http://www.truckstuffusa.com/deltatoolboxes.html

Check out UWS toolboxes. They have both polished and black, tall and low profiles. http://www.unitedweldingservices.com/index.html They are very strong and sturdy.

I bought my black diamond plate tool box at Tractor Supply and have been very pleased with it. Reasonable price too, but I don't remember exactly what it was.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thanks im located in N Indiana
From my experience, Weatherguard is the only way to go. I know the 117 extra wide boxes in black can run $700 - 900 new; however, I've been keeping an eye on craigslist for them, and pretty often you can pull up a handfuld of them for the $250 - 450 range in excellent condition.
I bought a UWS red contractor series cross box, and the UWS pork chop fender well boxes about 2 years ago. I carpeted the cross box and use it for clean storage of clothes, etc. The pork chop boxes carry ratchet straps, chains, dogs, come-a-long, jumper cables, tools, etc.
The cross box has held up reasonably well. The lid is foam filled and you can sit several people on it without it even deflecting.
However, the side boxes just haven't held up. Nearly half of the welds on the boxes have separated, and the lids won't close anymore. Water leaks in now, and they are crooked looking and sloppy. These weren't cheap boxes either...I think I paid $600 for the pair? I probably have each box loaded with 80 - 120 lbs at times, but I expected them to hold up better for the price I paid.
IMO, I'd rather spend the money on a used Weatherguard than a brand new anything else...
