Critique Modifications for towing

I have a 2004.5 CTD,4x4,3.73 with no mods. as per signiture and tow with a GCWR of 22,000 lbs.. The initial modifications I want to make are for towing & E-Braking and provide for more radical power mods. in the future, in order to provide max. power/torque within EGT limits for towing. I recently took a 12,000 mile trip to Alaska pulling a 5th wheel and was disappointed in towing power.

Please critique the following, as I'm getting close to purchase time:

Initial Mods.:
1- ATS Stage 5 Transmission w/Triple Lok TC & Triple Lok Commander - $4,984
2- X- Monitor - $429
3- Outlook Monitor - $ 370
4- Bulley Dog Power Pup- $449
5- ATS Exhaust Manifold - $595
6- Aeroturbine - $249
7- 41" Donaldson Muffler - $84
8- BHAF w/heat shield and pre filter - $170
9- Pac Brake PRXB - $885
Total $7,675 Labor $2,000 +

Possible future mods.:
1- TST Power Max CR stacked
2- BD Super B Turbo
3- EDM Injectors
4- Pusher Fuel Pump

Thanks

Thats quite a list. I sure hope my wife does'nt see it I'd go with 1,9,and your four future mods with a straight pipe and some gauges. A torque tube and drop in AFE. I know I'd be real happy with that. I think I might have to get a seperate credit card just for my truck

Nice list!

Yes on the transmission. My ATS was one of my BEST modifications. And the Commander is a MUST HAVE!
X-Monitor, I perfer old fashioned gauges.
Outlook, Get the TST (The outlook and pup will run you around what you would pay for a TST unit, outlook giving some questionable readings from what I have read here, and other sites [TDR])
BD Pup, Get the TST, you will appreciate the in-cab adjustability, infinate possibilities.
ATS Manifold, DEFINATLEY I paid around $400 for mine
Aeroturbine, Call mark at DPPI, incredible service!
Donaldson, option, still call Mark at DPPI, you will want the "LOOK", and you might want a 5" exhaust.
BHAF, AFE PG7 w/Torque Tube
PacBrake, don't know enough to make an opinion, but you need an exhaust brake.

DIFF COVERS You will appreciate the ease in fluid changes, call Mark at DPPI. He sells the covers at a great price, Mag-Hytec makes them in CA. They ain't as pretty as the Mags, but they work. Also his tranny pan, it's cheaper then ATS's, but not as pretty. DPPI is a sponser of this site, check the "links" section.

You should also get the Super "B" turbo at the same time you do the above. This should be a priority, keep the EGT's low, and turbo "intact", with whichever box you go with. And it's easier to install the turbo with the ATS Manifold at the same time. Make sure you get a heavy duty gasket for the ATS manifold, don't use the whimpy thin metal ones.

And I would go ahead and put a FASS/AirDog unit on with the above. If you are traveling, you will appreciate the fuel filtering that a FASS/AirDog offers. There is more then enough bad fuel out there to go around, don't be a victim.

And throw the injectors in. I got my 80hp injectors from www.jannettyracing.com for $700. Can't touch that price anywhere, and they perform flawlessly. Great bang for the buck, beats $1400 for a set. And I doubt anyone could tell the difference from a comparable EDM injector. No offence to Don intended. Just hard to beat Jannetty's price at this time.

In fact, there was a post here just in the last few days about "Jannetty's, in order, list of mods". It went in the same order I unknowingly did my mods.

Air intake, exhaust
Transmission
"Mild" fueling box
Turbo/ATS exhaust manifold
FASS/AirDog
Stacked fueling/timming boxes
Injectors
Then all the little stuff

And I would not add anymore then 80hp to the stock tranny. I had some "minor", but very noticable, clutch wear with my Edge EZ on the 4 setting. And I towed very little in that time period on my stock transmission. Heaviest load around 10,000 lbs, about 60 miles, and a few Bobcats and a small travel trailer. Maybe 400 miles towing total.

Look at my sig, the truck flys! I can lift the front end off the ground, enough to totally loose the steering. Gotta get this thing dynoed.

Just my .02

Mike
