The fuel sending units are a weak spot on these trucks. It sounds like yours is toast. You can buy just the sender for about $40 and remove the fuel module to replace it yourself, or buy a reman fuel module for around $120, or a new fuel module for around $300. Two ways to work on it, lift the bed, or drop the tank. For now, reset your trip odometer at fill up, and refuel every 3-400 miles. What year is your truck?

Sometimes they stick and you can beat on the tank with a 2x4 or your foot and unstick it. I have seen them stick when guys use the big nozzels to fill them up fast. Goodluck,,Rick

Mine stuck on full when the little green anti syphon ball fell into the tank and stuck the sending unit. Pretty weird.

Mine just started acting up last week. Gauge said I had 1/4 and I ended up running out. Unfortunately the guys that came to rescue me (hubby and a friend) checked everything else before they thought to check the tank. Have to get it changed before we head up to Tahoe next month. Really don't want to go on an 8 hour drive and end up getting stranded.
