crazy air conditioner thought

My air in my 06 has never worked as well as other brand trucks. I put my gauges on it & all readings are ok. It`s just not as cold as I think it should be. Well my crazy thought for you guys that know AC is this. If when changing from R12 to 34A the factory had to increase the condenser size by 20%, why couldn`t you flush your system, add a new dryer, & charge with R12? I know R12 is hard to find, I`m just wondering if there is any downside that I`m not thinking about. This is all just thoughts, I`m not going to do it, just wondering.Anyone on here that really knows about air?

It could be done but you would have to add more R12 and change the PAG oil for R12. I used to convert R12 systems to R134a back in the day. You would add 80% R134a to an R12 system. I would have to flush the system of oil and change it to R134a compatible oil. Good luck finding R12 anywhere. You would need a license to buy it and it would be expensive as all. My 1975 280zt still uses R12. I have one can left....LOL R12 systems were way colder than R134a systems.... Wonderful EPA again.

A project I am wanting to do, haven't got around to... take the heater core out of the loop and insulate the AC lines under the hood...

I would also like to relocate the tranny cooler to under the truck with electric fans, but I don't see that happening any time soon. That would boost the AC performance, I bet.

There are other refrigerants besides R12 that should fit the bill. I'm licensed but honestly I've not done any refrigeration work for so long I've forgotten more than enough to be dangerous!

I'm going madhats route, insulate lines and install a fan on the condenser.

Thank`s for the replies. I have my license but have done little work with R12. What about Freeze 12? What made me think of this was I was working on an older system that used R12 the other day. It was checking low so I put a can of freeze 12 in it. It will freeze you. It seems like most of us complain about our air so this seems like a good project. Anybody with the nerve to try it?
