For those who don't know what it is, CPL stands for Controlled Parts List. It is a parts list that is specific to that series engine and configuration. Remember that the 5.9 comes in several different varieties. The CPL is hte number a mechanic or parts guy will use to get the right part for that engine configuration. Things like heads, injectors, valves are configuration specific. To find the CPL nuber look on your engine at the front drivers side of the timing case. There is a data plate with lots of info. CPL is listed in there.

The other number to keep handy is the 8 digit engine serial number. Cummins Southern Plains in Houston is right around the corner from my office and any time I need parts, the guys at the parts counter ask for the sn.

Check this out. This is what the the data plate looks like. Yours may be buried under grease buildup, especially if you still have the stock breather bottle setup. Firing order is also on the plate under the CPL #. 1 5 3 6 2 4
