County Dump

I went to the Dump in Sunland Park NM today. There was a DOT Officer patrolling the feeder road to the dump. On my way in he had a new Ford F 450 with DOT #'s pulled over. On my way out he had a new Megacab pulled over. I spoke with the Ford driver when he pulled in after me at the dump. He said even though he felt he was legal, the DOT officer always finds an excuse to issue him a ticket. He said the road to the dump was the "new" popular road for the DOT officer to hang out at.

I have only seen them once or twice on the road going to the dump and they didn't have anybody pulled over. Recently my friend got stopped right out in front of the recyling center. This was his second time being stopped in 6 months so he was issued 3 tickets. Taking my advice he fought them and his fine was reduced 67%. Another guy I know got stopped leaving the dump in a 1 ton srw and was told due to his 20K lb dump trailers his truck was not rated for it. The next day he bought a brand new Dodge 4500.

I've been stopped 3 times myself. The first time was on a country road, the DOT was sitting on the side of the road, 7 warnings. The second time it was by a sheriff, 3 tickets, went to court fine was reduced by 67%. The last time the CVI saw me and decided instead of pulling over the box truck he better pull me over. After doing his inspection he came up to my truck and said other than the cracked windshield he would have given me an atta boy sticker. Warning for the windshield but told me to fix after the season.

I pull with a 3/4 suv, 3/4 pick up, and 1 ton dually a couple dump trailers rated at 15k.

Right now got the dually and dump trailer ready to go for my dad who's picking it up Monday as I'll be out of town and they need to start a fire job. My proof of insurance for truck/trailer, cab cards for truck/trailer, and pre trip inspection list are all on the center counsil. Fire ext. and warning triangles on the back seat. Did a pre trip inspection myself last night and all tested fine.

IF you have a new truck and trailer and have all your other things in order you should pass through there communist requirements just fine. If your vehicle is older leaks a little oil and is out of washer fluid then you may get tickets.

A couple years ago the CVI/DOT inspectors in MN went on strike. That time was nice as I hoped they'd never come back to work!!! Saturday the dump is open from 7am-noon this is when I try to bring in both trailers. From my experiance the CVI's work a normal work shift M-F but have seen them on weekends or at night at accident scenes involving commercial vehicles. A friend of mine runs a hot shot business and he says they are never out at night or when it's raining.

They are waiting on the only side road to and from the dump where they have a captive audience.
