Coolant temp. sender wire

Can anyone tell me what color the coolant temp. sender signal wire is in my 97? Also, where can I find it under the hood other than at the impossibley hard to access sender? I see 2 or 3 large plugs on the driver side of the firewall, would it be okay to tap it there?

I searched and found a diagram on the fostertruck site but was not sure if it worked with my 97. It calls out a black/tan wire, pin A16

Thanks

I just did mine over the summer ...It's bugger to get too ! . The wire is a single gray wire thats a squeeze terminal ...
The sender can be access from the bottom driver side towards the back of the motor look straight up ...it's the only single wire sticking out of the block towards the back of the motor and about 3/4 of the way up from the bottom.
Drain a gallon or so of coolant before you remove the sender , you can get a rachet and socket up there .
Good luck .

I'm trying to get to the wire so I can tap it for the Quadzilla commander I'm in the process of installing.
I took a peek up there a week back before I posted and only saw one wire like you said. The wiring diagram I looked at showed 2 wires just like the intake air temp sender has, +5V and signal.
Anyone know if there was a change over the years?
Thanks for the help

I know there was a listing for a 2 wire sending unit , but I could not tell you any more than that ...I have a earlly 97 manufacture date on one of my trucks and it's still a single wire ... There was a listing for a 2 wire .

Not much help there , maybe someone else can jump in !
