Coolant Question
#2
Don't add green you will have big problems. I have seen it at work where 2 different coolants are mixed ad it turns into a grey sludge and its a fun job to clean out the cooling system.

Ditto what those guys said.
The truck came with HOAT coolant. Do not mix it with traditional chemistry coolant.
On Zerex's web page, they say they that Dodge uses their HOAT coolant (G-05) died red, as the factory fill...

Following a radiator bottom hose connection leak (so much for constant pressure spring clamps) I need to refill the header tank.
I bought a gallon of Mopar 5-year anti-freeze ($31!) but it is yellow, not pink like the existing coolant.
As the new container doesn't actually say "HOAT" anywhere on the label I just wanted to check that this yellow anti-freeze is the right stuff.
Is it?

Zerex's G-05 Hoat is a gold color...
If the Mopar stuff is extended service (5 year) it should be hoat, but you could call the parts guy to be sure.
Actually, G-05 is usually quite a bit cheaper, so you could return it I suppose...

You can use convetional coolant in the truck as long as you totally flush the system of the HOAT coolant. The two are made of different properties and do not mix very well. Run into the same problem with the new trucks we get here in Iraq when we work on them. All come factory filled with ELC coolant and all we can get is covential coolant. Got approved through Cummins and International as long as totally flushed no issues. Just have to change more regular than ELC.

Thanks all - I topped-up with the yellow/gold Mopar stuff. I found in the RAM Service Manual that HOAT is designated as MS-9769 and the Mopar container had MS-9769 on the label, so OK.
I wish there was a Wally here in England, but the Zerex G-05 is unobtainable anywhere. The only source is from a Chrysler dealer. At least it was only a top-up. In a few year's time the cost of a full replenishment will hurt.
Come to think of it, it won't be as bad as I first thought because half the fill will be water.
